On April 17, 2007 at Chaophya Ballroom, Chaophya Park Hotel, Mr Thira Sutabutra, Minister of Agriculture and Cooperatives and Dr. Piyasvasti Amranand, Minister of Energy were the co-chairman of MOU Signing Ceremony between Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) and Royal Irrigation Department (RID) in developing 6 small hydro power plants project.
The project was initiated by the cabinet's resolutions on December 9, 2003 to manage water resources for irrigation at the maximum benefit. The cabinet had assigned the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives to take a major role in developing the project and the Ministry of Energy to be a supporter in techniques, planning and development.
On December 12, 2006 the cabinet has made decision on approval of 6 small hydro power plants development project comprising 6 dams: Pasak Jolasid Dam located in Lopburi Province, Khun Dan Prakarnchon Dam located in Nakhon Nayok Province, Chao Phraya Dam located in Chainat Province, Mae Klong Dam located in Kanchanaburi Province, Naresuan Dam, and Quae Noi Dam located in Phitsanulok Province. The project aims to promote electricity generating from small hydro power plant and to manage water resources for irrigation at the maximum benefit.
